Project

Downtown Urban Block, Brussels

This competition entry consists of a tower and a perimeter block, with multi-level public spaces and landscapes connecting residences, a hotel, a cinema, and office spaces. Our proposal achieved 2nd place. The project consists of a careful balancing act between getting a maximum of daylight into the center of the block, and adding daylight to the surrounding environment. The proposal is composed of a series of 3-4-story pavillions. These are stacked, juxtaposed, and combined in different ways as an oversized Lego set. As a result of the spaces between these pavillions, light penetrates deep into the premises and the overall composition, whilst dense, remains airy.
