Project

Private Residence, Bruges

This built villa lies at the edge of the Bruges suburbs, facing horizontal polder landscapes. The project initially conceived for a series of buildings lining and effectively defining the edges of Bruges, as a row of silent symbols marking the ultimate boundary between the sprawling city and the flat polder lands that surround it. The Villa ends the rigorous horizontality of the polders in a vertical move: the horizontal lines are drawn into the building and end there. The project has a formal simplicity, itself the outcome of countless iterations and reductions.
